Bucky cradles his newborn to his chest, swaying back and forth, strands of moonlight pour through the open windows, following his steps across the nursery. He has no idea what he’s doing. All the talks with his grandparents, all the hours spent reading through the parenting books, all the private classes he arranged for the two of you—none of them prepared them for this.

He can’t believe how tiny she is, her hand fits in the middle of his palm. A little Bumblebee that could get swept away in the cruel winds of the world. The thought renders him still. No, he will never let that happen. He presses a kiss to the crown of her head, inhaling the sweet baby smell.

Bucky thinks about his childhood, the violence, the hunger, that shaped him and he vows right there, that she’ll only know the softer side of life, that she’ll be spoiled and sweet. And happy.

And in return he only asks one thing from her.

Ari talks with his hands and Sunshine has to remind herself to stop staring. It’s not her fault. They’re so damn large. A few scars across the backs. Short, blunt nails. Calluses lining his fingertips, some from work, others from his guitar. Tattoos that start at his wrists and climb up his thick, corded forearms.

Normally greased stained hands aren’t appealing but when they’re attached to Ari Levinson, she’s willing to making an exception.

Especially after she witnessed him using two fingers to nimbly unscrew a car part.

And she noticed that he meticulously cleans his hands before touching her. Only her. He has no problem slapping his grime covered hand on one of the guy’s shoulders but when it comes to her, he makes sure every spec of grease is off his skin first.

And she’s appreciative.

She really is.
